DIY & Tech Session
American Service Center once again demonstrated their commitment to the Greater Washington Section by opening two full bays in their service facility on Saturday, July 11. A great facility, access to the lifts, and support from the service team make this event special. Add full support from the Parts department, and it's not hard to see why this is a popular event. By 8:30 am more than forty members were lined up waiting to get on one of the lifts. The crowd was so eager, that the doors opened a little early. In no time at all, the lifts in the first service bay were completely filled and ASC opened a second to accomodate the overflow crowd - it didn't take long for the lifts in the second service bay to fill up too, leavling a few late comers on a wait list. With plenty of ASC techs on hand, work was soon underway, and it didn't take long for participants to start heading for the parts counter to take advantage of the 20% discount offered for this event. Once parts lists were converted into parts, the work started in earnest. In addition providing advice to participants on the tasks included in their lists, the ASC techs aldo performed free Pre-Event Technical Inspections for those who were preparing for the July 25 & 26 HPDE at Summit Point. Section President Bill Hopper was one of those working on his car – by the end of the event, he had replaced sway bar bushings, new rotors, brake pads and wear sensors, and replacing vital fluids. Bill was ably assisted by GWS VP John Heflin (an MB-Tech in real life), and Membership Co-Chair Henry Harrell, who was one of those waiting for a lift to open up. In addition to the hands-on part of the day, ASC provided a &ldquoguided tour” of the 2010 E Class. Our thanks to Warren Bain for his work in making the event happen. Our thanks also to ASC for once again hosting this event. A special thanks to all the techs and parts guys (and gals) who gave up part of their weekend to help make this our biggest, most successful tech event of the year. |
